Chamber Music

Chamber Music is an exciting part of our curriculum and provides a supportive environment for students to play in a small group, experiencing the fun and joy of making music together. This program is open to all students beyond the very beginning stages, including students who take private lessons elsewhere - so if you have friends you'd like to play with, they're welcome to join us for chamber music!

What is Chamber Music?

Chamber music is music for a group of 2 – 5 players with any combination of instruments, and can include strings, piano, woodwind, brass, guitar, marimba, percussion, and more. There is no conductor, so each player learns by listening to others how to fit their part into the whole piece.

Students learn the art of listening to each other and staying together, maintaining one’s own part while still playing with sensitivity to others, leading and following, breath cues and visual cues, and many other skills which encourage both musical and social development – all while having musical fun together!

Chamber Ensembles (2 - 5 players)

Nothing inspires children like the chance to play with a friend, or two, or three! This is a terrific way to provide musical enrichment and an enjoyable social opportunity at the same time. Our chamber music program runs for 10-week sessions in fall, winter and spring, each with an informal performance/party at the end of the session.

This program is for anyone from late beginners to the most advanced players. We will match students with an appropriate partner or partners to play duets, trios or quartets. Day and time will be according to student and instructor availability. Each group will receive 10 weekly coaching sessions of 30, 45 or 60 minutes (depending on age, level and repertoire).

This program will not only enrich your child’s private lesson experience, but will also help students to be leaders or stronger contributors in their school or youth orchestra programs.

Cello Student

“Johann's easygoing manner suits my son very well. He manages to teach not only the intricacies of cello but of music in general, in a way that leaves the student empowered with knowledge and skill. My son has thrived under his tutelage!”
